Flags For Heroes

In 2022, the two Rotary Clubs in Fuquay-Varina kicked off an annual project to honor our community's heroes. Heroes in our context is anyone who has served in a branch of service, emergency responders, or anyone who has been a hero in your life regardless of occupation. Although all heroes are honored and celebrated during this month-long event, we read off the names of anyone who has died in the line of service at our Memorial Day ceremony. The Fuquay-Varina Flags for Heroes project continues to be a treasured event in the town's annual calendar.

The planning is underway for the 2026 Flag for Heroes  event. The location has not yet been confirmed but will be announced before the end of the year. The ceremony itself is scheduled for Monday, May 25, 2026 at 10:00am.  More information can be obtained from www.flagsforheroesfv.org.

Medallions for the 2026 field of flags will be available for purchase on December 1, 2025. Each medallion shares the name of the honored hero, their rank, the conflict they served in, etc. Medallions are $30/each or $50/2. Purchase information can be found at www.flagsforheroesfv.org. 

The success of this event hinges on our corporate and community sponsors. Sponsorships are already available and range from $150 to $1000. For more information, please email lynanne.fowle@gmail.com.

Although the Rotarians plan and facilitate this project, there are plenty of opportunities for community members to help out. We need help digging holes for flags, installing flags, parking attendants and ushers for the ceremony on May 25th, etc. Both the FV Chorale and the FV Community Band participate in the ceremony so if you have those talents there is a spot for you, too!
