Our Club has been a supporter of food insecurity programs at Pine Acres Community Center, located at 402 McLean Street near Lincoln Heights Magnet Elementary School.
Pre-COVID
We assisted with the summer lunch program at Pine Acres that fed students lunch every day during the summer months when they were out of school.
COVID
During the first six months of the pandemic, we developed an operational plan with Wake County to govern the distribution of food for children on free and reduced lunch lists who were homebound. Our club members facilitated the efforts to manage volunteers, pick up food from Lincoln Heights Elementary School, and send teams to mobile home parks and disadvantaged neighborhoods with meals and snacks for children. Once the students went back to school, Pine Acres pivoted to twice monthly food distribution events on Saturdays. Our club assisted with those efforts as well.
Post-COVID
In the years since the pandemic waned, Pine Acres has continued to distribute boxes of food once a month, and some of our members still assist in those efforts. The club also supports the effort financially and participates in the holiday food box distribution events. In 2025, Pine Acres finally built and planted a community garden, and our club will begin helping with that project in 2026.
