Uganda Water Collection System
The club is currently fundraising for (and submitting a District grant request for) a rooftop water collection system for a new school in Kisoro, Uganda. This project will serve over 50 children and 5 staff members and allow them to concentrate on educational activities instead of walking several miles each day to get drinking water for the children, We hope to have this installed in the very near future.
Microloans for International Entrepreneurs
The club loans funds to entrepreneurs (mostly women) in developing countries to kickstart (or build up) businesses that allow them to be self-sufficient and provide for their families. We use Kiva.org as a tool to facilitate the loans and as a clearing house for repayments. We also sent funds to a woman in Uganda to buy chickens as a way to raise and sell them to provide funding for her children to go to school, and she still regularly sends us photos of the chickens and her children as a "thank you."
Dominican Republic Latrine Installation
Every winter, our District organizes a service trip to the D.R. to help with various projects. We built latrines the first several years, but more recent trips have involved building houses, school buildings, etc. This is a long-standing international service project that several of our club members have participated in each year.
Ukraine Eye Surgery Equipment
In 2022, we collaborated with several other Rotary clubs to raise $10,000, which through District matching grants and Rotary International matching grants became three times that amount. Collectively we were able to purchase and ship surgery equipment to a hospital in Ukraine so they can perform much needed corrective eye surgery on infants in that region.
Uganda School Support
We annually support the Providence Christian School operated by CEAPU in Kisoro, Uganda. Our support helps purchase school supplies and books for the children as we try to break the cycle of poverty through education. In 2024, we began paying the college tuition of a young man who graduated from PCS, and he will graduate in the Fall of 2026.
